BUSHMANS KLOOF DOES IT AGAIN!

Cape Town (South Africa), January 2011: Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat in the Cederberg is entering a third year of international acclaim with the news that it has been voted one of the Best Hotels for Food in Africa, Middle East and the Indian Ocean on the coveted Condé Nast Traveller UK Gold List 2011 for the second year running.

Further setting the tone for the new year is news hot off the international press that Bushmans Kloof has been honoured by readers of sister magazine Condé Nast Traveler USA as one of ‘the best places in the world to stay ‘on the Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List for 2011. Bushmans Kloof shares this honour with four other Red Carnation Hotel Collection properties across the globe: The Milestone Hotel, 41, and Egerton House Hotel in London; and The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa in Cape Town.

Bushmans Kloof is one of only three winning properties in the Condé Nast Traveller UK Gold List 2011 Best Hotels for Food in Africa, Middle East and the Indian Ocean category, sharing the honour with the Cape Grace Hotel on the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, and all-villa resort Maia in the Seychelles.

Acknowledged as one of the world’s leading travel magazines, the Condé Nast Traveller magazine has a readership of over 1 million travel enthusiasts and is widely regarded as one of the ultimate guides to the world’s best hotels.

The editors and readers of the magazine, whose votes determine the winners, cited Executive Chef Floris Smith’s ‘contemporary Cape cuisine’ and ‘good use of local ingredients and herbs’, as the property’s X-factor, along with the flexible choice of dining experiences here that range from ‘elegant, formal dining at the Homestead’ to ‘barbeques at Embers’, the extraordinary open-air dining venue located out in the reserve.

Says General Manager Graham Kennedy of Bushmans Kloof: ‘Being voted onto the coveted Condé Nast Traveller UK Gold List for two years in a row is an extraordinary commendation for the culinary offering at Bushmans Kloof and a feather in the cap of Executive Chef, Floris Smith and his team. Creating memorable moments for our guests is at the heart of the Red Carnation Hotels’ service credo, together with a welcoming 'home from home' atmosphere and a world-class culinary adventure that is an integral part of the holistic guest experience.’

He went on to say that 2009 and 2010 were exceptional years for Bushmans Kloof in terms of international recognition, with highlights including Travel + Leisure’s coveted Best Hotel in the World award in 2009. In 2010 Bushmans Kloof was voted amongst the top 20 travel experiences in the world, as well as the Number 1 Hotel in the Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean Islands, in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Top 100 Travel Awards, and in the same year readers of Travel + Leisure magazine voted the lodge Best Service Hotel in Africa and the Middle East (2010) and No 2 overall.

Complimenting its cuisine, Bushmans Kloof is one of the few South African properties to have received top scores in the prestigious Diners Club International Wine List of the Year Awards for six consecutive years: Award of Excellence (2005, 2006 & 2007) and Diamond Award (2008, 2009 and 2010).
