You can also choose from a selection of superb local handicrafts, such as woolen throws or handmade leather footwear from Wupperthal village, where artisans still practise the skills learnt from the original missionaries.

The Trading Post stocks numerous artworks and craft created by local artists and craftsmen. This generates much-needed revenue for the local community and exposes them to an international market. One such local artist is ex-Miss South Africa Sandy McCormack, whose jewellery range comprises items that are individual works of art designed and hand-crafted by the artist herself. Exquisite pieces by renowned sculptor Patrick Mavros – born and raised in Zimbabwe - who has created some of the most extraordinary silver sculptures in Africa, can also be obtained here. This distinctive artist uses silver as a material in order to express both the precious nature and essential purity of his subject. He adopted the age-old art of lost-wax casting, whereby a mould is used only once, ensuring that every detail of the original is present in the casting, and that each resulting piece is individually hand-made.
