- General Manager
I started my hospitality career in 1991 as a guide with andBeyond after having obtained a Bachelors degree in Education at Wits University in Johannesburg. I spent 8 years with the company first as a guide and then progressing to Assistant General Manager and then General Manager for three of the properties including Phinda, Zululand Tree Lodge and Ngala Private Game Reserve. After andBeyond I moved to Ulusaba and worked briefly to open two lodges for Sir Richard Branson in the the world famous Sabi Sand game Reserve. In 2003 I joined the Tintswalo group and had a role in the development and operations of all three of their boutique hotels and lodges in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Kruger National Park, finally leaving in 2015. In 2016 I joined the Red Carnation Hotel Collection as GM of Bushmans Kloof where I currently reside.
- Rock Art Curator
I initially set out as a young man with dreams of becoming an electrical engineer. Due to a few financial challenges along the way, this was not to be and I moved from the Eastern Cape to Clanwilliam to pursue alternative opportunities. The combination of an interest in nature, my love of story-telling and a few chance meetings changed the course of my life. My love-affair with the stories of ancient rock-art began when I met Dr John Parkington, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Archaeology at UCT, who equipped me with the skills I would need to work in tourism; and Dr Janette Deacon, who I met when I accompanied her on visits to schools in the area, encouraging students to stop defacing their buildings with graffiti. These relationships have remained a constant source of support and inspiration.
After a period of freelancing as a tour guide specialising in rock-art, I was delighted to join Bushmans Kloof in 2013, where my position as the dedicated Rock-art Curator and custodian of the Heritage Centre allows me to educate visitors and share my passion and knowledge surrounding the early San, Khoi and Khoisan peoples of Southern Africa.
- Restaurant Manager
Beatrice Boois joined the Food and Beverage team at Bushman's Kloof in 2004. She won employee of the Year in 2008. She was promoted to Restaurant Manager in 2010. She manages the restaurant in The Homestead as well as our open-air restaurant overlooking the lily pond, Makana. She forms an integral part of the Food and Beverage Team at Bushmans Kloof. Beatrice possesses great interpersonal skills and guests enjoys her individualised service and attention to detail immensely.
- Restaurant Manager
I have spent most of my career working in the bush, mostly as a guide and game-ranger, with my new appointment as Restaurant Manager, I will be honing my skills in food and beverage. Its the perfect fit as I’m still in the bush and at the same time, taking my career in hospitality to another level.
As a self-confessed people-person, where I love interacting with guests from around the country and the world, is what makes me tick, particularly when it involves a conversation over sundowners in the bar or discussing and sharing tales of sightings and activities, after a day in the reserve during dinner.
- Food and Beverage Manager
Daniel started working at Bushmans Kloof in December 2008. He started his journey in the Front office as a Guest Liason, where he got promoted to a Field Guide in 2009. His great passion for nature was undeniable and his interaction with guests was true 5star. His great guest feedback earned him a promotion to Assistant Food & Beverage manager in 2012. He worked in this position for 5 years and got promoted to Food & Beverage manager in May 2017. Daniel strives to exceed guest’s expectations and always goes the extra mile to achieve 100% guest satisfaction. He values high 5 star standards and his love for the Red Carnation Hotel group shines through.
- Spa Manager
Nikki Bouic joined Bushmans Kloof as a Spa Therapist in 2010. She was promoted to Head Spa Therapist in 2013 and Assistant Spa Manager in 2014, showing great leadership skills and receiving fantastic guest feedback. Nikki has taken over as Spa Manager in September 2016 and leads her team with tremendous drive and passion for professionalism. She maintains high standards in the Spa and motivates her team at all times to exceed guest expectations.
- Corporate Sales Executive, Red Carnation Hotels South Africa
Tamsyn joined the Red Carnation Hotels group in April 2012, fresh from a two-year stint as
Corporate and Conferencing Sales Executive for the hotel Sales and Marketing company Extraordinary.
In her capacity as Corporate Sales Executive, she represents The Twelve Apostles as well as sister properties Bushmans Kloof and The Oyster Box, calling on the corporate, retail and PCO markets covering the Western and Eastern Cape regions. Tamsyn supports the Sales Manager in all sales activities. Her outgoing personality is well-suited to the position, which requires an engaging, empathetic communication style in order to connect with people and to motivate and inspire them to achieve results.
- Wedding Planner
Having completed a diploma in International Hotel Management, Stephanie began her hospitality career in the food and beverage sector within the Protea Hotel Group, before moving on to Cape Town’s V&A Hotel. Two years later she joined the management team at Hunter Hotels’ Country House in the Western Cape.
Stephanie joined The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager in 2009, and in late 2010 she obtained the role of Wedding Coordinator, shortly after she was appointed as the dedicated Wedding Coordinator for both Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat and sister property The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.
- Deputy General Manager
Pieter van Dyk has been appointed Deputy General Manager at Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat in the Cederberg outside Cape Town. Van Dyk hails from Middelburg in the Karoo and has been the Human Resources manager at Bushmans Kloof since 2012. Armed with a B Comm degree from the University of Pretoria, his work experience includes local and international appointments in catering and logistics, before a 2-year stint in hospitality as Villa Manager at 26 Sunset Avenue Llandudno in Cape Town. In his new role he will work closely with Bushmans Kloof General Manager Rory du Plessis, overseeing the day-to-day running and operations of the lodge and ensuring that guests enjoy a memorable stay.
- Executive Chef
Executive Chef Charles Hayward joins Bushmans Kloof with a wealth of experience having worked in some of London and South Africa’s best restaurants. Having trained as a chef at Warwick’s Chef School over 17 years ago, Chef Hayward enjoys creative yet simple dishes, using fresh ingredients from the local area.
- Front Office & Virtuoso Liaison Manager
Cecile started at Bushmans Kloof having just left the spa industry and showing an interest in the administration side of the hospitality industry. She joined us in the capacity of the Assistant Front Office Manager and her enthusiasm for 5 star quality service proved to be infectious and quickly spread through the rest of the team. Cecile has now been promoted into the position of Front Office Manager where she also represents Bushmans Kloof as the liaison for our Virtuoso clients.
- Executive Housekeeper And Gardens Manager
Charmaine joined Bushmans Kloof over 15 years ago and has grown with the company over the years. She is the mother figure of the team and delights us with her stories of yesteryear. She has a passion for immaculate housekeeping with a fine eye for detail in all of our guest areas.
- Operations Manager
Michel joined Bushmans Kloof as a graduate from The International Hotel School. He commenced his career with the Red Carnation Hotel Collection working as an intern for the lodge’s sister hotel the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, and with much promise and high recommendation joined the Bushmans Kloof team as Assistant Front Office Manager. He showed tremendous strength in his interactions with guests, and after a year was promoted to Assistant F&B Manager. He then gained vital guest experience as Koro Lodge Manager, and is delighted to now return to the Food & Beverage department as F&B Manager. Michel leads his team to encompass the values and standards set out by Red Carnation, as well as Relais & Chateaux.
- Sales Manager, Red Carnation Hotels South Africa
Nicole, who has been with The Red Carnation Group for the past ten years, brings both operational and sales experience to her new role as Sales Manager. In May 2008 she was promoted to Guest Relation Manager of The Twelve Apostles Hotel, specifically looking after in a sales capacity, the Key Consortia Relationships with large corporates such as Virtuoso and American Express, before becoming Assistant Sales and Marketing manager at The Twelve Apostles Hotel in 2009. In 2010 Nicole was appointed as Sales Manager for the Red Carnation Hotel Collection over seeing all sales activities for both The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa and Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat.
- Revenue Manager, Red Carnation Hotels South Africa
Sue began her career with The Twelve Apostles Hotel in 2002 as a Reservationist before being promoted to Front Office Manager and then Reservations & Revenue Manager. In 2008 she decided to widen her horizon and left to continue her career with other high-profile properties, including The Collection by Liz McGrath and Red Carnation member The Old Government House Hotel and Spa in Guernsey, where she was part of the launch team. Upon her return to South Africa she held a position at the Cape Grace but re-joined Red Carnation in March 2013, as soon as the position of Revenue Manager for The Twelve Apostles and Bushmans Kloof became available.
Sue implements the revenue strategy for both properties, ensuring that all target market segments are developed for the long-term benefit of the hotels’ business.
- General Manager Sales, Red Carnation Hotels South Africa
Sally has extensive experience in the hospitality and travel industries, having spent the past 20 years, in various capacities, working within the Thompsons Travel Group. Most recently she has held the position of General Manager: Global Sales for Thompsons Africa and brings a wealth of skill and experience to developing both the international and domestic travel markets on behalf of the Red Carnation Hotel Group portfolio. She is integrally involved in the day to day running of the business, from formulating strategy, to the building of the brand, establishing and maintaining relationships with Clients. Based at The Oyster Box in Umhlanga, Sally is responsible for the Sales of all the Red Carnation Group’s South African operations.
