 Unwind in the Wilderness

The award-winning spa at Bushmans Kloof is inspired by the landscape surrounding the property and the healing plants and herbs found in the fynbos. Equipped with four treatment rooms, rain showers, a fitness centre, a heated outdoor poor and a rock quartz crystal steam room, the spa aims to cater to every part of a guest’s wellbeing. Signature treatments include the Cederberg “Soul”ution, which takes place in the idyllic Riverside Gazebo and incorporates ancient African traditions alongside the most efficacious plants, used in hot stone massage, a Rooibos milk foot bath and face and scalp massage. Here, blogger and writer, Jared makes the most of the serenity in spa’s relaxation lounge after enjoying a treatment.

 Admire Ancient Art

Rock art excursions are a fascinating way to discover the culture and history of the Bushman tribes, who have inhabited the Cederberg Mountains for over 120,000 years. The reserve looks after 130 unique rock art sites, which offer a profound insight into the spiritual beliefs of this ancient nation. The excursions begin with a bush breakfast before a tour of the rock art sites, some of which date back 10,000 years. A South African Natural Heritage Site, visitors can also check out the Bushmans Kloof Heritage Centre, which houses an impression collection of Bushman artefacts such as musical instruments, jewellery and even magical tools.

 Meet the Locals

A haven for wildlife, Bushmans Kloof is home to one of the biggest private herds of the beautiful Cape Mountain Zebra, whose vibrant black and white stripes make them easy to spot. Additionally, the reserve is committed to protecting its precious animal inhabitants, including the illusive Cape Leopard, and operates a wildlife reintroduction programme that has helped return the likes of the Red Hartebeest and ostrich to their natural habitat.
