Rock Art comes alive at Bushmans Kloof

Explore the fascinating history of ‘one of the world’s largest open air art galleries’ with renowned South African archaeologist, John Parkington, retired Professor at the University of Cape Town’s Archaeology Department. Bushmans Kloof is proud custodian to over 130 remarkable, documented rock art sites – left behind by the San Bushmen, heirs to one of the world’s longest artistic traditions. Since its inception, Bushmans Kloof has shown a rare dedication to the preservation of this rich cultural treasure. John Parkington and Bushmans Kloof’s resident rock art specialist, Londi Ndzima, will introduce you to some of these spectacular sites – some of which date back as much as 10,000 years. Perfectly preserved due to their position under rocky overhangs and protected fissures, they offer insight into the rich cultural history of the Bushmen, San hunter-gatherers who traversed this area in search of food and water for thousands of years.
